A Mathematical Approach to Establishing Constitutive Models for Geomaterials

چکیده
Themathematical foundation of the traditional elastoplastic constitutive theory for geomaterials is presented from themathematical point of view, that is, the expression of stress-strain relationship in principal stress/strain space being transformed to the expression in six-dimensional space. A new framework is then established according to the mathematical theory of vectors and tensors, which is applicable to establishing elastoplastic models both in strain space and in stress space. Traditional constitutive theories can be considered as its special cases. The framework also enables modification of traditional constitutive models.

Viscoplastic Modelling of Unsaturated Geomaterials
In this paper a rate dependent model for unsaturated geomaterials is presented. The formulation and numerical predictions are compared with available experimental results and discussed. The constitutive laws for the description of the time-dependent mechanical behaviour of saturated and unsaturated geomaterials generalize the isotach approach to the elastoplastic strain hardening based constitu...
متن کاملLeast Squares Support Vector Machine for Constitutive Modeling of Clay
Constitutive modeling of clay is an important research in geotechnical engineering. It is difficult to use precise mathematical expressions to approximate stress-strain relationship of clay. Artificial neural network (ANN) and support vector machine (SVM) have been successfully used in constitutive modeling of clay. However, generalization ability of ANN has some limitations, and application of...
متن کاملImplicit numerical integration of a three-invariant, isotropic/kinematic hardening cap plasticity model for geomaterials
The mechanical constitutive behavior of geomaterials is quite complex, involving pressure-sensitive yielding, differences in strength in triaxial extension vs. compression, the Bauschinger effect, dependence on porosity, and other factors. Capturing these behaviors necessitates the use of fairly complicated and expensive non-linear material models. For elastically isotropic materials, such mode...
متن کاملA Nano-indentation Identification Technique for Viscoelastic Constitutive Characteristics of Periodontal Ligaments
Introduction: Nano-indentation has recently been employed as a powerful tool for determining the mechanical properties of biological tissues on nano and micro scales. A majority of soft biological tissues such as ligaments and tendons exhibit viscoelastic or time-dependent behaviors. The constitutive characterization of soft tissues is among very important subjects in clinical medicine and espe...
متن کاملA microcrack-based continuous damage model for brittle geomaterials
A new microcrack-based continuous damage model is developed to describe the behavior of brittle geomaterials under compression dominated stress ®elds. The induced damage is represented by a second rank tensor, which re ̄ects density and orientation of microcracks. The damage evolution law is related to the propagation condition of microcracks. Based on micromechanical analyses of sliding wing cr...
